Our Story

Thinking Man Consulting (TMC) is a social enterprise with two primary lines of business. The firm was formed to provide premium consulting services and tools to improve the effectiveness and impact of philanthropic and social interventions that strengthen society. Our primary constituents include foundations, non-profit organizations, government agencies and individuals.

We prioritize integrity, transparency and results in our work. We maintain a manageable client portfolio which enables our "high touch" approach with every client. Our methodology elevates client's priorities and delivers only the highest quality products and services.

While TMC specializes in concerns related to males, particularly males of color, we deeply value gender equity and welcome opportunities to partner with women and women's groups to undo sexism, patriarchy, misogyny and hegemonic masculinity and stop violence against women.

Our Founder

Loren Harris, founder of Thinking Man Consulting, recently completed his tenure with the Ford Foundation as the Program Officer responsible the Ford Foundation’s Youth funding in the United States.

During his career in philanthropy, Mr. Harris was the creative visionary behind: A primary interest of his grantmaking at Ford was advancing strategies to reduce racially disparate youth outcomes. Mr. Harris also works in partnership with organizations responding to the human development needs of adolescent males, particularly young men of color.

Prior to joining Ford, Mr. Harris served as Associate Program Officer for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. During his five years with Mott Loren designed and implemented the Fathers at Work Initiative. Fathers at Work and other Mott supported efforts were funded with the aim of reducing poverty through support for interventions that people facing multiple barriers obtain well-paying, unsubsidized employment.

Prior to joining the Mott Foundation Loren managed a STRIVE replication site in New York City that specialized in connecting young people to employment. Mr. Harris holds a BA in U.S. History from Queens College in New York and a Masters in Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
